Women in funeral procession hold long white cloth above their heads

Women relatives in the funeral procession, wearing matching purple jackets and black skirts and sashes, hold a long white cloth above their heads as they walk. The white cloth represents a serpent or naga who will lead the deceased's soul on its journey after death. Spectators, mostly local but also foreign tourists taking photographs, stand tightly packed on both sides of the road.
