Woman in lavender jacket places offerings at edge of green rice field

A woman dressed in a long sarong, lavender jacket, and sash sits balanced on her heels to place offerings at the edge of a lush green rice field. The woman is formally dressed with her hair pinned up in a bun. Irrigation channels are visible just in front and behind the dyke on which she is perched.Balinese use palm leaves, sticks, flowers and food to make a vast array of colorful decorations, many of which are created as shrine, temple, or holiday offerings to please Balinese Hindu gods. Offerings also are placed in a family's rice fields at each important stage of the rice growing process. Here the rice plants are large and geen, but not yet laden with golden grains of rice.
